It dates back to the early 1800s as a riding boot, which is how it earned the name Paddock boot; only in the mid-1900s, when it was popular in England, did it become the Chelsea, after a district in southwest London. Goodyear-welt construction, double-sided gore, a 360º flat welt, full-grain kip leather lining, vegetable-tanned insole, welt and midsole, cork filler over a steel shank, full-grain leather heel counters and a micro stud rubber outsole.
