Butterum Gum Oiled Plain Toe Boot
Description
A plain-toe boot in a warm butterum tone, built on the high-walled Floyd last and detailed to sit between a work boot and an office shoe.
The pattern is what separates it: smaller hardware than the pattern usually carries, a single backstay, and larger quarter panels, which together quieten the boot down without softening it. Uppers, lining and insoles are time-proven leather. The upper leather is Gum Oiled Desert Oasis from Charles F. Stead. It is Goodyear welted with a 360º split-reverse welt, lined in full-grain kip leather, and closed with polished brass eyelets and speed hooks. Vegetable-tanned leather forms the insole, welt and midsole, cork filler sits over a steel shank, and full-grain leather heel counters hold the back. The outsole is lug rubber.
The result feels and supports like a workboot while the subtle details keep it viable in an office. Butterum is warm enough to read as a colour and neutral enough not to fight anything. Wear it indoors on Monday and outdoors on Saturday.
