Description
A plain toe boot in crimson Chromexcel, cut on the simplest pattern there is, with nothing on it that is decoration.
The upper is Chromexcel tanned by Horween in Chicago; the hot-stuffed tannage leaves oils and waxes in the hide, which is what gives the leather its pull-up effect at the flex points and a supple hand from the first wearing. Full-grain kip leather lines it. Vegetable-tanned leather forms the insole, welt and midsole, with cork filler over a steel shank and full-grain leather heel counters at the back. It is Goodyear welted on the Leo last with a 360º split-reverse welt, and antique brass eyelets and speed hooks run up the front. The outsole is a medium-density micro stud rubber, built for all seasons.
The construction is the argument here: a boot put together this way is meant to be resoled rather than replaced. Wear it with a trouser heavy enough to break over the shaft, and keep everything above it plain so the crimson stays quiet.
