Earth is a very dark brown out of the box, and this plain toe boot is designed so that it does not stay that way.
The leather is Waxy Commander from Charles F. Stead, an article balancing strength and character. Its tannage builds a tight fibre structure and then infuses it with wax, so the surface shows lighter shades through everyday wear. Uppers, lining and insole are leather and nothing else. Full-grain kip leather lines it; the boot is Goodyear welted on the Leo last with a 360º flat welt, antique brass eyelets and speed hooks, vegetable-tanned leather at the insole, welt and midsole, cork filler over a steel shank and full-grain leather heel counters. The micro stud rubber outsole is medium-density and built to handle all seasons.
This is the pair for someone who wants the change to be visible. Wear it hard and the earth tone opens at the flex points first, where a boot always tells you what it has been doing.
