A classic service boot with larger quarters, smaller hardware and an extra eyelet — details that add up to a dressier boot than the plain-toe pattern.
The leather is Waxy Commander from C.F. Stead, and it carries a generous amount of wax. That is what produces the distressed appearance the boot develops: as it is worn, the lighter base underneath begins to show through wherever the leather bends. It is a resilient article that only improves with age. Construction is Goodyear welted on the Leo last with a 360º flat welt, full-grain leather kip lining, antique brass eyelets and speed hooks, vegetable-tanned leather at the insole, welt and midsole, cork filler over a steel shank and full-grain leather heel counters. Underneath runs a micro stud rubber outsole.
Tobacco is a working brown that lifts as the wax moves, so this boot looks better six months in than it does on the shelf. The extra eyelet and the smaller hardware make it the version to wear when the rest of the outfit is tidy. Wear it, do nothing to it, and let the base come through where it wants to.
