Description
A service boot in storm-grey Waxed Kudu, on the pattern that was built for protection rather than appearance.
The service boot developed out of the trench warfare of WWI, and its history has been one of defence — stable, unyielding protection for the feet. This rendition keeps the shape honest: a perforated cap toe, a backstay that hugs the heel counter, and an all-eyelet closure with no speed hooks. Drawing on the same military history, it is paired with a lug outsole for more robust traction, which is what turns a stylish boot into a utilitarian one. The upper is Waxed Kudu from Charles F. Stead. Construction is Goodyear welted on the Leo last with a 270º flat welt and heel rand, full-grain leather kip lining, polished brass eyelets, vegetable-tanned leather at the insole, welt and midsole, cork filler over a steel shank and full-grain leather heel counters, on a lug rubber outsole.
Grey is the tone that makes this pattern look less military and more considered. It is a boot for bad ground and good company, and it will not be mistaken for anyone else's.
